I’m always on the hunt for a bargain in the Northern Westchester area. Although not what I would typically consider Roadfood (it’s really more of a budget restaurant), I’ve included it because of the somewhat unique menu, and because there are not many good deals in the middle of Mount Kisco.
This was our second visit for lunch. I learned my lesson from last time and kept the order to just a couple of items. The portions are huge. I was barely able to finish a small Greek salad and bowl of avgolemono, better known as Greek lemon chicken soup.
Having enjoyed the small salad I can’t imagine that many people could finish the large one. For the price of what some places charge for a regular side salad you are treated to one overflowing with feta cheese, olives and some stuffed grape leaves, not to mention their delectable Greek house dressing.
It’s hard enough finding Greek lemon chicken soup, much less one done well. I would say they nailed it. There’s plenty of all white meat chicken. Rather than pander with blandness, the chef has seen fit to add plenty of lemon, stopping just short of the pucker factor. It comes in a large size only. These two menu items were all I could finish, and I have a hearty appetite.
On a previous visit I had ordered a gyro and found it to be up to the same high standards. Huge, plenty of fresh ingredients and enough sauce to keep you from wishing you had asked for extra.
Dining with a friend who doesn't like Greek food? Order a four dollar plain hamburger. Feeling really hungry? Supersize a menu item by ordering it as a platter. That adds a Greek salad, pita bread and a choice of fries or rice.
