Can't believe the bad reviews considering the wonderful food and service I've had here. One of the most underrated meals is breakfast.. you can have your breakfast with store bought or homemade bread..take the homemade! And with a different homemade jam being made every day, I could make a meal of just those things! With daily lunch specials like beerocks (like a runza or cabbage burger), and rice pudding so rich you'll think you've died and gone to heaven, this would be a place I'd recommend to anyone.

I grew up in the Fresno area and, aside from Me N Ed's pizza, the only food I truly crave is the chicken pie from the Chicken Pie Shop. From the yellow-tinted flaky crust to the rich, chickeny gravy, and the tasty chicken chunks... fantastic!

My mother literally RAVED to me about this place for years. When I moved back to Central California in October 2010, within a week she'd taken me there for lunch... or rather, she attempted to do so. The food was truly awful: mushy vegetables, tiny portions, wildly salty chicken gravy. We sent our meals back, left, and had excellent Mexican at Sal's in Selma. It's sad that a local landmark has gone downhill to this degree. Maybe one day someone who cares about food will buy it and restore it to its former glory.

While the service is friendly, the portions leave much to be desired when their prices are considered. I have never been so dissatisfied with the quality of a product.

I had read several reviews about the chicken pies and was excited to try them as I was visiting the Fresno area. The service was terrible and should have been our first tip off after the decor. The pie was lukewarm, tasted bland, the mashed potatoes were the same, my wife took two bites from her Cobb salad and decided not to continue. I finished my pie only because I had just gotten off of work and was starving. I would have relished a banquet pie over Grandmarie's for a lot less and it would have been served hot. After dinner I was served rice pudding that was included with my meal. It looked like cottage cheese and did not even come close to tasting as good, it taste old. The only saving grace for us was from the Panderia Natalie we happened to stop in first to get directions. We stopped at the Panderia (mexican bakery) on our way out and received great service and excellent sweet bread. Any good reviews to Grandmaries must come from family as nobody in their right mind could give a decent review.

Visited in the Fall of 2009. We went with the chicken pot pie and were not disappointed. Seriously one of the best meals I have ever eaten in a resturant. What made it so good is it all tasted like something my grandmother would of cooked up. The pie was amazing. And it came with a side and a dessert... are you kidding. I thought my belly was going to explode. I also made the mistake of ordering a milk shake which came old school with the extra tin of basically a second shake. If I am ever in Fresno again this is a must stop.

Fresno's Chicken Pie Shop (official name: Grandmarie's) has a central location in Fresno's Tower District, right across from the marvelous Tower Theater. Booths in the CPS are clad in yellow and green vinyl, and the east wall features three gigantic, vibrant plastic chickens. The dining area is spacious.

The specialty is a chicken pot pie meal. The lunch involves the pie itself and mashed potatoes covered in a vivid yellow gravy, as well as coleslaw and a pair of warm biscuits. I asked the waitress about the yellow gravy, and she said it is a reduction of the chicken stock used to boil something like "60 chickens at a time." It is creamy and thoroughly chickeny tasting and enhances the flavor of the pie.

The pie is maybe seven inches in diameter and absolutely crammed with chicken meat; none of the usual peas or carrots you get in a frozen pie. So what looks at first glance like a small pie turns out to be quite a feast when cracked open. The pie has a very nice, crispy pastry crust that stands up to the contents of the pie and the yellow gravy.

The best part of the meal, however, is dessert. The apple crumble is a cakey kind of crumble, soaked in cinnamon and sugar; very good, especially with the coffee. And the rice pudding is one of the best I have had.
