We love the PA Dutch Market and have been coming here for many years. They are just off Route 50 near Annapolis, MD in a small shopping center complex. Their new website says it pretty well: "The Dutch Market Restaurant features a full breakfast, lunch and dinner menu. This menu is prepared using traditional PA Dutch recipes, which have been handed down through the generations by the Amish, carrying that 'old-fashioned' home-cooked taste. Come to the restaurant and enjoy a meal before you shop at the market..."

Always plan on spending an hour or so shopping after you eat. Everything is inside like a modern grocery store but each shop has its own area and specialty. Butcher, baker (incredible donuts!), fresh produce, poultry, candy, dairy products... all are just a few steps away from your table. The market is open only Thursday, Friday and Saturday and the hours sometimes change. We find that Thursday is the least crowded day for shopping.

Currently, the restaurant opens at 8 a.m. all three days and closes at 6 p.m. (3 p.m. Saturdays) but call to confirm if you are planning a special trip. No secrets here... just plain fresh and wholesome ingredients prepared with skill. Nothing is spicy or overly salted. You can watch your rolls being shaped and baked just across the hall. Also, all the food just looks so good. There is something about the simple but elegant way it is served by the charming waitstaff too. The textures of the food are also a treat. For instance, there were crunchy bits of toast within the stuffing, and mashed potatoes and gravies have the occasional lump etc. And the fresh squeezed lemonade gets free refills.
