Located in a strip mall in suburban Long Island, Boomy's draws a loyal local crowd. The menu includes traditional Jewish delicacies as well as burgers, salads and wraps. There is also a takeout counter for those who are not seeking table service.
Lunch begins with complimentary sour and half-sour pickles, creamy coleslaw and marinated chickpea salad and as an added bargain, a cup of soup is included with any sandwich or entree at lunch time (between 11AM and 3PM).
The matzoh ball soup can hold its own against any other Jewish deli on Long Island. The matzoh balls are light and fluffy, although the soup itself is a little bland. The overstuffed pastrami and chopped liver on rye is truly a standout sandwich. The rye bread is bakery fresh; the chopped liver has just the right amount of schmaltz and complements the top notch, hand-cut pastrami. If you don't like your pastrami lean, you might want to let your waiter know beforehand.
Boomy's stands out as a hidden gem in a narrowing field of traditional kosher delicatessens.
