Mr. Gene's Dog House

The Hot Metts are the shining star of Gene's. They ARE hot but the flavor justifies any momentary discomfort. It is best to buy a milk shake with the Mett as it dissipates the heat. Unless you are into pain, do NOT drink a coke with these metts as the cola intensifies the heat of the sandwich.

Mr. Gene’s is the type of place that one would drive by and not even notice. In an area that has a very urban feel, one just wouldn’t think a place like this existed here. So I never thought of eating there until I read about it in "Cincinnati Magazine."

One trip to Mr. Gene’s and I saw why it was written up in the magazine! As their name implies, hot dogs are their specialty. I got a chili dog and their new Chicago hot dog. The chili dog, your typical drive-in dog, gladly satisfied my hunger. The Chicago hot dog is a little more unique; however, it is nothing like a genuine Chicago hot dog. No poppy seed bun, no beef wiener, but pretty good for the only Chicago hot dog available in Cincinnati! Now the best things at Mr. Gene’s are the milkshakes. I don’t know if there is any particularly special ingredient in them, but they are tantalizing. I always get the cherry milkshake, with real cherries in it.

Mr. Gene’s is a great place to grab a quick bite; they also have a drive-thru now. Located less than two miles from I-75, they are open late in the spring, summer, and fall.
