Tulmeadow Dairy Farm
255 Farms Village Rd.
December 3, 2005 7:04 AM
Tulmeadow Farm is a full-service farm stand throughout the summer, with all kinds of locally grown produce, including just-off-the-vine tomatoes and sugar-sweet sweet corn by mid-August. You can come for old-fashioned chicken pies, apple cider and maple syrup, herbs and hard candies, and Christmas trees in December. The main reason we like to visit this working dairy farm (which has been milking cows since 1768) is ice cream. Using rich cream and high-quality fruit purees, Tulmeadow Farm makes ice cream that is likeable and all-day lickable.
Flavors range from the most basic (and heavenly) sweet cream to the house specialty, red raspberry chocolate chip. There are regular cones and waffle cones, normal milk shakes and extra-thick milk shakes, and three sizes of sundae topped with your choice of hot fudge, blueberry or raspberry topping, marshmallow goo, peanuts, Gummi bears, or M&Ms.
Those who live nearby or travel in an RV with a freezer can get ice cream cakes and pints and quarts to take away. The rest of us are limited to what we can eat on the spot, between April and October, after noon, when the ice cream window opens to the public.
Tulmeadow Farm is open every day from 9am to 7pm from April through December, and on weekends, Friday through Sunday, from 9am to 7pm, January through March. Ice cream is available year around, but scooped only from April through October.
