Stella's Hamburgers

Omaha is a town that loves its burgers. Considering it's in the heart of beef country, that's no surprise. Many taverns, local fast-food restaurants, diners, and cafes will compete for attention and claim to have the best burger in town. It's very possible that this honor should be bestowed upon Stella's, a restaurant which has been owned by the same family for over 70 years. The original owner's great-great-grandniece recently took over, and Stella's underwent a subsequent renovation.

The menu is small for a reason: Stella's knows what it does best. These burgers are big, flavorful beauties, freshly ground and hand-pattied. Even when served the far side of medium, they're still juicy. One thing to remember: Stella's isn't fancy. These burgers are served on paper napkins. For a few cents extra you can pick your toppings. Don't forget to order some fries. These are crisp, fresh-cut fried potatoes and one order is generous enough to share.

Stella's recently earned a spot in George Motz's book "Hamburger America." Accolades to a fine burger that deserves to be in the Burger Hall of Fame.
