Always on the hunt for a great breakfast (especially great home fries), I found just such a meal at the Neptune Diner in Oneonta, NY on a recent trip to Central NY. It's a Greek/Mediterranean-inspired place that has been a mainstay in the area for many years, although they removed the original diner and built an expanded diner on the same site in the year in 2000.

My friend ordered the French toast and it came to the table very thick and fluffy; he enjoyed it very much. Our girlfriends had the cheese and Western omelets with home fries and they looked pretty good to me. I went for the Mediterranean omelet (feta, tomato, and onion) with home fries and rye toast. This was an excellent omelet with a substantial filling. I usually don't like browned omelets as they tend too be chewy/rubbery, but the Neptune really nailed this one, as it was soft and fluffy.

And they really had it going on with those home fries. I don't see this style of potatoes very often. They were perfectly executed, soft in the middle, crispy/crunchy around the edges and fried up with onions and green peppers. Lots of flavor! I also got a side of corned beef hash and it came just the way I like it: creamy and crispy.

A hearty, tasty breakfast with excellent food, the Neptune was a surprise find and a genuine treat.
