The first evening we were in New Orleans we made a beeline for the Acme Oyster House. Both of us love oysters and fresh Gulf oysters are among the finest of nature's creations. If you can find room at the bar, that is the place to sit so you can watch the shuckers at work. These guys are so experienced that they don't even have to look at the oysters. It's pretty amazing to watch.

We ordered oysters on the half-shell and char-grilled oysters, which are cooked in garlic butter with a bit of parmesan cheese. Outstanding! Then Kay had another half-dozen oysters on the half-shell while I had one of the best fried soft-shell crabs I have ever eaten. Add a glass of Abita Amber beer to your meal and you will leave here very, very happy.

We liked this place so much that we returned on our last day to have lunch. After all, the memory of these oysters are going to have to last a long time.
