Los Cinco Puntos

3300 East Cesar E Chavez Avenue, Los Angeles , CA - (323) 261-4084

A big thank you goes out to Roadfooders Ayersian for discovering Los Cinco Puntos and publishing their find in the Roadfood Digest. Los Cinco Puntos is a Mexican "super cocina" or market, located on the border of LA's Boyle Heights neighborhood overlooking the welcome to East LA sign, located across the street. East LA is the spiritual heart and soul of Los Angeles' Mexican community.

The market does not provide seating, as it is strictly takeout, which seems appropriate for the street food that is its specialty. Besides offering hot trays of freshly prepared meats, tamales, Mexican sodas, and candy, what makes this market truly special are their homemade tortillas which are prepared before your eyes on a flat grill. These tortillas are thick and fluffy, with just enough chewy crunch to add some texture. Although the tortillas can hold their own, you can also fill them with your choice of meat and salsa. My tortillas were generously stuffed with tender and juicy carnitas, bursting with fresh homemade pico de gallo, guacamole, and nopales (cactus leaves). There is no question that this is the best taco that I've ever enjoyed.

Without a doubt Los Cinco Puntos has certainly imprinted its footprint on the Mexican "Street Food" culinary trail.
