Fosselman's Ice Cream Company

Fosselman's Ice Cream Company is definitely worth a detour from anywhere in Los Angeles. Located in the San Gabriel Valley northeast of downtown, it is easily accessed from the 110, 710, and 10 freeways.

Third-generation owners Chris and John Fosselman keep the 90-year-old business alive. They offer classic ice cream flavors and "old-time" candies and taffies for the older folks, plus they create a fun environment that the younger folks enjoy. It is common to see multi-generational families coming together to share a banana split or big dish of ice cream.

The ice cream factory is right next door, so you know it's going to be fresh. Window posters tempt passersby with seasonal favorites; on this visit, it was fresh peach. I took one for the team and gave it a try, pairing it up with the lemon custard. Yum! My favorite time to visit is Halloween, when they offer both black licorice and pumpkin. Those two flavors stirred together is unbelievable. And, at just $3.70 for the two generous scoops, I take the chance with random flavors on a regular basis.
