Phil's Chicken House

1208 Union Center Main H, Endicott, NY - (607) 748-7574
Phil's is a great source for a Cornell chicken dinner built around a bird that gets slow cooked and relentlessly basted on a rotisserie until the skin is glazed gold and the meat drips juice. Chicken and biscuits is great, too.

Famous for barbecued chicken, Phil's also serves a topnotch plate of chicken & biscuit. The biscuit is underneath the chicken, busy sopping up gravy.

It is customary to serve picnic-style salads on the side of New York State barbecued chicken. That's potato salad on the right and macaroni on the left, the latter named before the term pasta became fashionable.

Eating chicken is messy business. That's why each table at Phil's is outfitted with a large plastic bucket for bones.

When Phil's has strawberry shortcake on the menu, it's usually one of the best dessert bets.

That beautiful glaze is the result of frequent basting and long, slow roasting.

This is true old-fashioned homemade macaroni salad, and tastes nothing like the stuff from supermarket delis.

Too often overlooked, there is always homemade chicken soup at the salad bar, chock full of meat and soft noodles in a deeply chickeny broth.

Sometimes you'll find breadstuffs left over from breakfast at the salad bar, and they're a fine accompaniment to Cornell chicken.

Blueberry pie seems like a fitting end to a summer chicken dinner in Upstate New York.
