Blue Colony Diner - Newtown, CT

Your wish is the Blue Colony kitchen's command: Anything possible to do with eggs for breakfast, they do it, with fine hash browns on the side. There are quite literally hundreds of hot meals, sandwiches, and salads. The dishes for which we return again and again are the chicken souvlaki plate, homemade split pea soup, and daily specials of stuffed mushrooms, corned beef with cabbage, and Yankee pot roast.

The Blue Colony recently underwent a major renovation, inside and out. It's almost complete, and we are happy to report that this modern oasis at the end of an exit ramp continues to offer a multi-page menu of blue-plate specials.

"The turkey is cut from a real roasted bird (not a "turkey roll"), and the mashed potatoes are real (not from powder). This is one superb hot sandwich!"

While gentle-textured, this bread doesn't have a compelling taste. It's great for mopping gravy off a plate or salad dressing from the bottom of a salad bowl.
