Over the past quarter century, Herrell's has tripled in size from a single store in Northhampton to include shops in Allston and Cambridge as well. This is the birthplace of the ice cream smoosh-in, where Reese's Peanut Butter Cups, fruits, nuts or other mix-ins found their way into creamy base flavors long before the emergence of Cold Stones and Marble Slabs. This type of innovation remains today, as Herrell's rotates through nearly 200 different flavors. Whereas some of these flavors were first concocted over 30 years ago (like Malted Vanilla and Chocolate Pudding), new and different flavors emerge all the time (such as a frosty Root Beer)!
