Yes, under that broad, gnarled patty of beef there is a bun. But with the fried onions, tomatoes and lettuce weighing it down, the bun was nearly useless in getting all this food from plate to mouth. The crunch-crusted burger became finger food and was easy to pick up, piece by piece, along with ribbons of caramelized onion.
