Jerry Lee's Kwik Stop

12181 Greenwell Springs Rd., Baton Rouge, LA - (225) 272-0739
Jerry Lee's Kwik Stop is a convenience store that makes great boudin sausage -- long links with bits of onion and a rumble of spice punctuating rice and coarse-ground pork that is succulent but not greasy, all packed into a thick, tight skin that is a joy to sever. Jerry Lee's has no place to dine. It is not uncommon to see people standing by their cars in the parking lot, unwrapping the sausage, and eating it right there.

"A neon sign in the window of Jerry Lee's, a strip mall butcher shop / convenience store in Baton Rouge, shows a boiling pot with this legend underneath: "If it's not Jerry Lee's, it's not Boudin." While a lot of Cajun boudin is fire-hot, Jerry Lee's is only haloed by ..."   [Read More]

"Jerry Lee’s Qwik Stop is a serious Cajun food lover’s grocery. The meat market is amazing with excellent sausages, head cheese (delicious and the best I’ve ever tried), boudin, cracklins, beef jerky, and specialty cuts of meat. It is not unusual to see customers ..."   [Read More]

The sign above calls the place Jerry Lee's Cajun Foods, but it still has the soul of a convenience store.

The combination of boudin and cheese makes a mighty sandwich, and at $2.19, a great bargain; but in my opinion, the salty surge of cheese eclipses the subtle bouquet of boudin spice.

A knife is needed to cut through the rugged natural casing that encloses the boudin.

One thing that makes eating around Cajun country so much fun is that some of the best food is not found in ordinary restaurants, but in convenience stores, gas stations, butcher shops, and roadside cracklin' vendors.
