Taggarts Ice Cream

1401 Fulton Rd. NW, Canton, OH - (330) 452-6844
Taggarts opened in 1926 and has changed very little since then. While the specialty is ice cream with great sauces, there also is a full menu of sandwiches, burgers, soups and salad.

"Here might be the best hot fudge anywhere. It is the consistency of chocolate syrup, not too thick; nor is it intensely sweet. Bittersweet is the descriptor that comes to mind, but there is nothing bitter about this sophisticated super-fudgy warm sauce that is ice ..."   [Read More]

Superb hot fudge, crisp roasted nuts with just enough salt, homemade ice cream and buttery caramel sauce. Is Taggarts' turtle sundae the ultimate dessert?

Sorry to say, this photo does not do justice to the rainbow of color and flavor that compose the banana split beneath all its whipped cream. This is Taggarts' 'old fashioned' version, made with vanilla, chocolate and strawberry ice cream and topped with pineapple, chocolate and cherry toppings

A taste treat from long ago, reminiscent of tea-room fare and ladies lunch: the olive nut sandwich. 'Back by popular demand!' crows the menu.

On the menu since the 1930s, the Bittner Special was named for a local grocery store whose driver challenged Taggarts' fountainmen to make him the thickest milk shake ever. It's ice cream and chocolate sauce swirled together and topped with roasted pecans.

From Taggarts' menu: 'A proper soda is a delicate blend of soda water, your favorite flavoring [here, chocolate] and ice cream. Served frothy and slightly overflowing.'

Originally a bicycle repair shop, this building became an ice cream parlor early in the 20th century. Joe Taggart took over the business in 1926 and his recipes for ice cream and toppings never have been changed.

The wooden booths are original. Like the rest of the vintage ice cream parlor, they have been restored to their original gleam.
