A full stack of five is a mighty tower of good eats. Du-Par's is famous for its pancakes, rightfully so.

Du-par's uses its own thick-sliced bread to make French toast. For $2.25 extra, you can get a crock of boysenberry compote to apply.

Why don't more restaurants offer pitchers of melted butter to go with the pancakes? Pouring it on is so much more efficient than trying to spread a cold pat. Not that Du-Par's pancakes even need the butter. They are buttery enough hot from the griddle. But it is so nice see and savor the swirl of butter and syrup on these superb flapjacks.

Moist and unctous but with a crisp web of skin, Du-par's corned beef hash is vividly spiced and has just enough onion to balance its brine with sweetness.

Coffee comes in a sturdy mug with a pitcher of cream. While you sip, ensconsed in a plush upholstered booth, you are serenaded by the clatter and sizzle coming from Du-Par's semi-open kitchen.

Fresh? You bet. Du-Par's orange juice is so pulpy it is almost like eating a sweet, delicious orange.

The broad-topped bran muffin is nearly as sweet as spice cake and chocked with fruit. It is so sticky that it is best eaten with a fork, lest one's fingers get caked with crumbs.

At about 5am the week before Thanksgiving, they were decorating the trees outside of Du-Par's with Christmas lights.

Next time, I will ask for my hash browns well done. The crisp web on the outside was great to crunch, but the interior potatoes remained too soft for my taste.
