Beals Ice Cream - Portland, ME

A landmark in the Old Port, the doors of Beal’s Ice Cream remain open even in the dead of Maine’s winters. The rotating menu includes both basic and inventive ice cream flavors, including seasonal specialties such as Pumpkin and Indian Pudding. Although this downtown locale lacks the pastoral charm of other local creameries, it makes for a perfect stop when strolling the cobblestone Old Port streets.

Overall Experiencerating
Teaberry Ice Cream - This flavor certainly wins points for its uniqueness! Made to taste like Clark's gum of the same name that swept the nation in the 1960s, Teaberry has a wintergreen-esque flavor that certainly interests the taste buds, but can be difficult to pinpoint. rating
Grasshopper Ice Cream - This mint and chocolate combination fell somewhat short due to a weak mint flavor and somewhat icy texture. rating
Vanilla Ice Cream - Akin to popular name brands that can be found in your grocer's freezer, this basic flavor was lacking in flavor and creaminess. rating
Hot Fudge Sauce - Thick and gooey as many believe hot fudge should be, but tasted generic. rating
