I would direct anyone coming to SE Wisconsin to stop at Pacific Produce, a huge Asian supermarket. It has items I've never heard of or seen before and that includes Mitsuwa in Chicago. They have a nice little Banh Mi shop, along with a small Thai outlet along with a bakery, roast duck and pig meat shop along with a large supermarket with fish, live and dead, black chickens, and even balut. There is a nice full size Vietnamese restaurant next door. Here's an old review: http://eatwisconsin.wordpress.com/2010/12/10/pacific-produce-asian-supermarket/
Re:Chowhound and Milwaukee (CCinNJ)

 Holy smoke!

That's too complicated to understand.

Re:Chowhound and Milwaukee (ScreamingChicken)

CCinNJ

I don't know what a "vax man" does...and why did he stop?

Perhaps he was this kind of VAX man. I was one from 1981 through 2005...
Re:Chowhound and Milwaukee (CCinNJ)

I just hope he didn't get fired.

Re:Chowhound and Milwaukee (BuddyRoadhouse)

 Yikes! Good thing he quit.

Buddy
Re:Chowhound and Milwaukee (CCinNJ)

 Oooh...leave my friend alone!

http://www.vaxman.ca/products_wax.html

Re:Chowhound and Milwaukee (CCinNJ)

 I'll go be his friend!

I don't know what a "vax man" does...and why did he stop?

Re:Chowhound and Milwaukee (chicagostyledog)

CCinNJ will find the place for exvaxman. RF is definitely not Midwest or Milwaukee centric but I have found what I am looking for sometimes on the least likeliest of sites.

I've never been insulted by the use of the word "meh" (and I've heard it endlessly in NYC. Maybe I'm just numb to it now!) I use it myself if I saw a Broadway show I didn't like, a film I didn't care for or ate at a restaurant that just didn't do it for me. If he had gone on and on and on about how he didn't like Roadfood's coverage of Milwaukee and kept complaining about it I could see why that might be insulting. I don't know if he would have done a "vice versa" if RF had been the ones with the answer.

As much as I love posting Trip Reports about my experiences I know that my photos and writing style are not going to "do it" for everyone and when someone expresses that they don't like it, I'm okay with that. I guess it's just the name calling thing that really bothers me. I've seen far too many threads descend into madness over name calling and it just doesn't seem to serve any constructive purpose. Maybe it would be better to be a RF ambassador and reply to exvaxman on Chowhound with some helpful tips about seeking info on RF in the future. Just a thought...
Re:Chowhound and Milwaukee (CCinNJ)

Maybe he feels like you are all friends and he is an outsider....just looking for an Asian food warehouse.

Re:Chowhound and Milwaukee (BuddyRoadhouse)

billyboy, you're not wrong, but consider my point: He didn't even try to ask the question here before stating his opinion. If he had posed the problem to our members and gotten no response, he might have a legitimate reason to gripe. As it is, he went to LTHForum with the issue and got an answer from a regular Roadfood poster who, like me, posts at both sites. Now, if he had posted the same question here, and the same person answered it, then Roadfood would be the heroes and he would call LTH's Milwaukee coverage "meh". Frankly, an unfair assessment in either case.

Buddy
Re:Chowhound and Milwaukee (billyboy)

Sounds like Roadfood was the first site that the second poster had come up with. I'm sure there are many great Midwest based restaurant/food sites from which to draw upon. RF just doesn't seem to be the best fit for this particular situation. He wasn't insulting RF, just stating his opinion that he wasn't crazy about the Milwaukee coverage.

Not sure if name calling is particularly helpful in this situation. Imagine if the posting on Chowhound read like this: "Roadfood is a stupid site filled with self-important dufus posters"...
Re:Chowhound and Milwaukee (BuddyRoadhouse)

Especially since he didn't even bother to post the question here at Roadfood. He did ask over at LTHForum where the only poster to help him was Roadfood regular and Contingent member chicagostyledog who offered him an alternative to be seen at the end of this page:http://lthforum.com/bb/vi...p;t=33160&start=30 .

Calling a website, and in turn its members "meh", without actually making contact with us, is definitely low class. Sorry exvaxman, if you're reading this, I appreciate your input over at LTH, but you blew this one.
Funny, I thought the city has been covered in fine fashion, done by probably the most energetic Roadfood group around.

But this particular thread is about Asian products, if that makes a difference:
* * * * * * * * *

Asian warehouse/bulk "club" in MKE? Anyone have information?

Then some discussion, then:

I went over to Roadfood and consider their Milwaukee coverage to be "meh". lthforum.com is more active and specific. In fact, a couple of professional writers and food critics who readt he the forum were subject to me driving them around my favorite haunts for a couple of days. It might be completely innocent, but the JS had articles that mirrored one of the writer's works within a week after a couple of the lesser known places were written up. This place is going to bug me until she gets back.
