Bart

Not worth it for me, unles my goal was simply to save bottles (which I recycle). Wegman's line of sodas (all diet for me) are 69 cents for 2 liter bottle. From Diet cola, Zero Cola, and a line of diet (zero cal/carb) citrus and grapefruit sodas called "Wedge," diet Ginger Ale (which is actually better than diet Schwepps), diet orange (as good as diet crush), etc.

Also, the selection of diet flavors is limited, right now, for the soda stream. But, I do HATE all the bottles and recycling. So, if soda stream introduces more diet flavors, and makes them readily available in grocery store, or target or bed bath beyond...where ever, I would consider at that time.

Re:SodaStream Soda Makers (Scorereader)

ces1948

Actually I thought these were the latest "flash in the pan" gimmick product but they seem to be holding on. I thought the same thing about those "single cup coffee brewers" but apparently I was wrong about that also.

That may be the funniest thing I've read so far this year. And, I (am serious here) thought the exact same thing when the Keurig was introduced! Haha LOL! Boy were we mistaken!

Re:SodaStream Soda Makers (ces1948)

Actually I thought these were the latest "flash in the pan" gimmick product but they seem to be holding on. It's very easy to use. My only disappointment is that I only drink diet soda as I am diabetic. I think the soda stream syrups for diet leave a bad aftertaste. They use sucrolose as a sweetener. In order to mask this, I have been squirting a stream of Mio black cherry flavoring into the finished product. That seems to work pretty well. I would love to know if there were somewhere I can purchase coca cola or Pepsi diet syrup to use in my soda stream.

Re:SodaStream Soda Makers (bartl)

When you figure in all the prices, it comes out to about 50-60 cents per liter. The syrups are great, and you can add them to seltzer made by other means. I've seen a few videos on Youtube on how to hook up the Soda Stream to a regular (and considerably less expensive) refillable CO2 canister.

Bart
Re:SodaStream Soda Makers (ken8038)

Interesting article in yesterday's NY Times about "other beverages" these things can make.

http://www.nytimes.com/2013/02/27/dining/hacking-home-soda-making-machines.html?pagewanted=all
Re:SodaStream Soda Makers (Hot Dog Empire)

I love mine. So much that I bought one for my parents. After watching THIS video, im going to order the kit so I can get a large Co2 tank and stop paying the cost of refills at walmart/staples.
Re:SodaStream Soda Makers (leethebard)

 Buddy,
Try Costco if you belong...we goy ours there...it's their highest quality onbe..comes with a sampler of soda and the extra large cannister of air....much cheaper than at target etc. Also the syrups have come down in price...I can get most for around $4 and that makes many gallons of soda. Love mine...and use it a lot...well made and very easy and quick to use. Sipping some diet ginger ale as I type...made in about 20 seconds with spring water from my frig. Great taste!!
Re:SodaStream Soda Makers (BuddyRoadhouse)

I would definitely want to do flavors. Maybe make my own Ginger Beer. Or add in fruit juices, as leethebard suggested.

Buddy
Re:SodaStream Soda Makers (mar52)

I bought mine at a garage sale. I forget the price.. $5 or $10 maybe. It had been tried once by someone who decided his kids did not need to drink soda.

I love mine for seltzer. I don't bother with flavors.
Re:SodaStream Soda Makers (Root-Beer Man)

Buddy, I saw one at my local Meijer's in the clearance row and it was going for $129. Not sure what its regular price was. An acquaintance of mine did a review of it for epinions.com. Pretty thorough.

http://www.epinions.com/r...tent_612121415300?sb=1

They're certainly an interesting thing. One year and still enjoying it! I use the Diet syrups which are quite good, and sometimes simply make seltzer and add fruit juice. Better quality than most diet drinks. Anyone out there have one?
