This has made me cry more than once today already. "Little Boxes" was a godsend to a rebellious middle school kid from the suburbs who really didn't want to be "just the same", and it's seen me through more than one bout of doubting myself when the world was questioning my decisions. Because of Pete Seeger, I also got to know artists like Steve Goodman, Paul Thorn, Arlo Guthrie, and Joan Baez.

Sleep well, old friend. Your music will live on in the hearts and minds of everyone. And thank you so much for living your life according to your own beliefs and principles, showing the rest of us how to do it with class, humility, and humour.

Funny, but Little Boxes never causes me to think of Pete Seeger. I always think of Malvina Reynolds. I guess that's the ticky-tacky part of me.

There's a wonderful youtube video of "Pack up your Sorrows" performed by Richard and Mimi Farina, as well as Pete, featured on his TV show in the 60s. This song marked the beginning of my relationship with my better half, and so has a very special meaning to both of us. Up until yesterday, Pete was the only one left in that video. I hope it's still available for you all to enjoy as they sit at an old wooden table and sing and play. Rest in peace and sing out, Pete!

Holy crap! I had NO idea it wasn't his song! I mean, I know a lot of "his" songs were written by others and/or adapted from songs passed down from previous generations, but that completely escaped me. Thank you!

You're welcome. While I've always been a Seeger fan, I'm also a Malvina Reynolds fan.

He was an amazing man, not the least of which for me is that because of Pete Seeger, my mom and dad met.

Hard to believe that at one time our government, in its infinite wisdom, considered this man as possibly being guilty of unAmerican activities and was blacklisted.

Didn't realize he was as old as he was. He seemed like one of those timeless, ageless people.
NOW he'll be able to find out where all the flowers have gone.

In 1984, I saw Pete Seeger in a concert on Akron. his first appearance there after he had been banned for being  a communist iin 1954. He made it a point to sing the internationale saying it was great song but they should not have made it official. It was a strong but classy gesture by an artist. who never really changed and became beloved by so many of us.
