    Favorite soups:
Butternut Squash soup - with apples, onions, and a bit of curry powder
Potato Soup - mine is pureed smooth with the immersion blender
Chicken Noodle - especially since I recently discovered thicker Kluski noodles
Taco Soup - easy and makes a large quantity, tastes similar to chili, but is not as thick
Split Pea - I add a smoked pork chop, ham hock, or thick slice of smoked deli ham chopped.

butternut shrimp bisque - my niece made this for Christmas and it was excellent, hope to make it this coming week.    http://www.brigtsens.com/recipes.html

Cajun seafood gumbo from scratch....starting with a roux made with lard. I took a cooking class in NOLA and learned to make it then. Main difference between Creole and Cajun gumbo is NO tomatoes in Cajun...also a darker roux. As far as restaurant soups I really love good She Crab and the Rhode Island Clam Chowder (clear broth).

Wow, what a photo! I thought for a minute it would spill in my lap. Doesn't that have like ham or pork hocks in it as well? Looks great.

I never met a soup I didn't like. However, I'm especially fond of all Asian soups and all ethnic soups in general.
But, my favorite American soup has to be New England style clam chowda.

I haven't tried many soups that I haven't liked. I love to make soup, especially trying new ones. Crawfish Bisque is my favorite to make and eat but I really think it's considered a stew. My friend married a lady from the Philippines and I recently tried pho and wow now I have another soup that I love.

                          PANCHO,
I'm not sure if Gumbo falls into the Soup Category but regardless, it's one of my favorites along with:
                          Split Pea with Ham Bits
                          Navy Bean
                          My Bride's French Onion
                          Never met a soup I didn't like.

Here you go, blue heaven....good story on the roots of Rhode Island chowder and pretty much my recipe as well. I should have had Pho on my list, too. I'm sure there are some good Vietnamese places in your area, give it a try. If they have it order the "deluxe"...it will have steak, sausage, tripe and tendon in it. Great noodles and a succulent broth. Dump all the "greenery" served with it right in the bowl...should include Thai basil, sprouts, and lime wedge. Are you named for the restaurant in Key West? One of my favorite places.

With regard to the above Pho comments, I would like to say I am totally addicted to Vietnamese Pho! Thank goodness so many Vietnamese decided to settle in the Dallas area when they fled Vietnam.

I know I've said this somewhere here in the past....but my family is crazy about my "White Pasta Fagiole", a recipe I got from a chef  at The Teatro restaurant in Venice. It's secret ingredient is Mint. It's the perfect winter meal served with a premium crust Italian loaf!!! I know somewhere on this web site I've posted the recipe, if you're interested.

My 2 favorites are my Massachusetts Clam Chowder made with left over steamers, the broth, onion, celery, diced potato, diced pork jowl, milk and thickened with instant mashed potatoes. The other that my family likes is my vegetable soup with kale, onion, carrot, cabbage, celery, potato, Italian beans and a mixture of beef and vegetable broth. The key is to sweat the onion, carrot and celery first in some olive oil to bring out the sweetness.

Thanks for the info Pancho and yes blue heaven in key west my favorite place in the world!  When was the last time you were there??
Three years ago...I used to live there and need to get back for my fix. My favorite way to get there is fly into Miami and rent a convertible...sometimes it takes me 3 days to make 150 miles...depends on where I stop and what trouble I get into the night before. I like staying at the Southernmost and usually hang at the Green Parrot and Capt. Tony's. How about you?

I gave making beer cheese soup a try for the first time yesterday and it turned out to be a bad/good thing.  The cheese didn't melt into the broth as I expected but rather became a gummy, gooey mess that looks like something the dog yacked up (and I'm going to get a workout scrubbing the bottom of the pot), but I strained the liquid and thickened it with a little flour, and it actually tastes pretty good.
