My mom,back in the 50's made tomato soup with hot dog "coins" for us kids. Thanks for reminding me!

Grill those franks whole first to give them color and a little crustiness before slicing and adding them to the soup and I'll have a bowl. And a big glass of milk. please.  EDIT: Oh, and some Saltines that I can crumble.

I've made that at home numerous times.
Another Comfort Food Treat:
Tomato Soup with a grilled cheese that has 2 grilled hot dogs sliced length-wise inside the grilled cheese

I'd do it. When I was a kid, my favorite was creamy tomato soup eaten with a rolled up piece of Oscar Meyer bologna and that combination rocked, so I say go for it.
