Cran Raspberry with... Mon, 05/6/13 5:14 PM (permalink)
Vodka, I recently tried this out, maybe there is already a name for this drink, I don't know, but the Raspberry takes an edge off straight up Cranberry juice and Vodka. Anyone ever try this?

Take a low end Champagne......mix it 1:1 with the Cran-raspberry.  Add 1-2 TBS of Triple Sec ( Cointreau if you're feeling flush) per glass

Well the Cranberry and Vodka is known as a "Cape Codder', but I haven't heard of a label for the Cran-other fruit- mixes.

Well, the cranberry with vodka, triple sec (and a few other things) is known as a Cosmopolitan.

              Marlene,
Many years ago there was a place in North Hollywood, CA called the Palamino Club (since you are an Angeleno you might have heard about in in the 60's and 70's). One day, a friend was in town and called me up to meet him and "a few friends" there for the Flying Burrito Bros. show. My friends was a musician from Nashville, then playing with Donna Fargo. I met him there and we sat down at a long table that was saved for our group of 10. My friend was on one side and an empty chair on the other side. After a bit, everyone was introduced. When I was introduced to the guy across from me, he was just introduced as Tim, a road manager. For some reason he had almost a grin/snicker on his face. The waitress came, and I ordered a beer.
By the way, being one of the most famous country western bars in the US, the Palamino was also known for the large quantity of fights there.
Ten minutes later, I heard a voice say practically in my ear, "what kind of !$@#  *^*& drink are you drinking? I tried to avoid turning around. The next I heard was, "leave that crap and let me buy you a real man's drink". All I could say was OK. He sat down next to me, and for the rest of that evening Waylon Jennings bought me Black Russians. I never thought of a Black Russian as a woman's drink again!

PS---My friend told me the next day that one of Tim's jobs was to find a "mark" for Waylon. This was one of his favorite things to do for fun!

“I’ve always been crazy– but it’s kept me from going insane.”
              –Waylon Jennings

Ed, I know the Palomino Club well but never got to go.

I was a big fan of Waylon Jennings.

In 1970 my radio station went Country.  This was before it became popular.  I continued to listen to it and loved it.

Because it wasn't yet in vogue, I used to win a large majority of the phone in contests.  I was known as the Country Jew Girl by one of the disc jockeys.  He thought I might just have been the only one.

He also invited me to come to the station and watch him while he was on the air.  (I brought a friend!)

One of the guys, Brian Brazil, who I played in a band with was also the harmonica player for the house band at the Palamino. between him and my other friend I went to a lot of great shows. Waylon was actually a really nice guy. One night I was invited to go out with some of the guys after a show. That evening fizzled, but finally Hoyt Axton asked me if I wanted to go back to his hotel coffee shop for pie. What an interesting evening that was!  I have so many more fun recollections from that place. Unfortunately, I never did see Kinky Friedman and the Texas Jewboys there. Now THAT would have been an interesting show!

Get your biscuits in the oven and your buns in the bed.

That would never go over well now.

                    I have the album.

I forgot to write about Hoyt Axton... or his mother.  She wrote many famous songs.

I used to know all the fun facts about the older Country singers.
