Jax in Truckee, CA ~ Hwy I-80 Tue, 05/28/13 10:34 PM (permalink)
I have a new favorite...!!!
2 weeks ago I was in Truckee, CA, on I-80, ejoying the Sierra scenery...and was looking for food...
The first place I stopped in was Mexican...but the taco's were $7 each, ala carte only, & no combo dishes appealed to me, so I left...
Tried the Covered Wagon cafe, but at $12 a pop for yer basic burger, I left...
I forgot about the summer tourista season in the Truckee / Lake Tahoe area, where city people pay outragous prices for only so-so I went south, across the railroad tracks...
And I found Jax ("Jax At The Tracks")'s a classic metal diner building that is larger than it looks...
I ordered a French Dip, and man was I was HUGE...!!!
The roll must have been 5" x 9" or so, and it was loaded with meat...unlike many of the typical scrawny dips found elsewhere with skimpy portions of beef...
I almost couldn't finish it, it was that big, and I also had parmegean chips as a side and a milk shake (they also serve you the shake mixing can with more shake inside)
Serving staff was friendly, attentive, and knowledgeble...
As a guy I also appreciated the fact that the waitresses were good looking...
Jax is now on my "A list" of places to eat...
