Faicco’s Pork Store
Review by: Michael Stern
Faicco’s is a real butcher shop. The sausage, pork shoulder, tripe, and pig skin are here cut the old-fashioned way, by hand. The sausage – hot or sweet, with or without garlic, cheese, fennel or parsley – is deliciously fatty and full flavored the way sausage ought to be. It is great for frying in a pan with some Italian peppers or cutting up and cooking for the top of a round-the-world pizza.
Probably the best known irresistible specialty of this century-old Greenwich Village market is arancini, which are crispy balls of risotto impossible to stop eating.
In addition to meats, cheeses, salamis, and groceries for cooking and assembling meals at home, Faicco’s makes all kinds of food that is ready to eat (although it’s up to you to find a place to eat it): hot and cold Italian sandwiches on superb loaves of bread, roast pork, eggplant parmigiana, and folded-over pizzas, known as stromboli stuffed with cheese and spinach.

Everything Faicco’s sells is fresh and delicious. Their sausage and fresh mozzarella is the finest, bar none. Try their broccoli rabe and sausage bread. Also try their rice balls, heated in the oven and topped with their hoomemade vodka sauce. Outrageous!!!
There is also a location in Brooklyn, at 66th Street and 11th Avenue. This family owned and operated business is professional and their store is immaculate. The butcher area is right in the front of the store and can be viewed by passersby.
